Aurizon Hexhan Facility Construction:
Leighton Contractors Pty Ltd were awarded the contract to construct the new Aurizon facility at Hexham, which included eight holding roads along with additional roads running into the new state of the art maintenance facility. This facility is the principal maintenance depot for Aurizon coal operations, for the Hunter Valley.
Leighton Contractors Pty Ltd engaged Momentum Rail to coordinate and provide Track Protection Services for the duration of the project, which ran for 18 months.
The project required Momentum Rail Protection Officers to facilitate all safety briefings as well as provide protection to numerous work groups, throughout the entire site. As the worksite is located adjacent to the main north-south rail lines the volume of rail traffic was significant, and had trains passing through the worksite on average every 8 minutes. This, in conjunction with a large number of ARTC scheduled track possessions required detailed planning and resource allocation to ensure maximum efficiency during allocated track time.
In addition to the Track Protection Services, rail infrastructure personnel, namely qualified track workers and welders were supplied.
The high level of skill and workmanship displayed by the Momentum Rail team played a significant role in the on time and under budget completion of the project.
Following the successful completion of the Hexham project Momentum Rail has continued its valued relationship with Leighton Contractors Pty Ltd. Momentum Rail has been contracted to LS Rail (a joint venture between Leighton Contractors Pty Ltd and Swietelsky Rail (Australia) Pty Ltd) for the past three years, supplying Track Protection Services, Hand Signallers, Machine Pilots, Track Machine Operators, Traffic Officers and Labourers for track maintenance works in the Hunter Valley.
